Story by Lucia Sun
The story, SLOW F, addresses the theme of loss of control over one’s life in modern times, where social media influences the expectations and aspirations of the young generation. With the freedom and the new possibilities that technology brings, allowing to connect on a global scale, develop a career in a fast-paced environment, and build your own business, the stakes become higher as well. Changes in socio-economic conditions contribute to increased anxiety, affecting self-perception and causing feelings of loneliness. The story focuses on the importance of control through the ability of making decisions, starting with fashion, appearance, and self-definition. As the team describes it, “This story is a call not to lose our identity and to care less about the outside world and more about our own needs. To live and enjoy life in its present moment.”
Photographer Lucia Sun, along with the creative team of Stylist Irene Monje and Makeup Artist Maria Tattaglia, presents three characters sharing a household, reflecting on the challenges young people face in providing for themselves and planning for the future. The story includes three characters — a pregnant woman, an adult, and a young boy — who symbolize the current state and the potential opportunities that the future holds. The main message is to remember that change is possible today, and one can influence their happiness through a shift in mindset and the use of available resources.

‘The central theme of this story is how our generation faces the great changes that have arisen in the world and how we try to adapt.’
The central theme of this story is how our generation faces the great changes that have arisen in the world and how we try to adapt. Many of today's young people, even though we have more opportunities and education than our parents, feel lost and unmotivated, largely due to the socioeconomic change that we have had to live through and, on the other hand, the big screen that is social networks and its ability to generate anxiety and frustrations in us. It is more difficult for us to achieve goals in our lives that were previously normal for our parents, such as buying a house or having children. This story is a call to not lose our identity and to care less about the outside world and more about our own needs. To live and enjoy life in its present moment.

‘They are all united by the same reality: the need to share a home to make ends meet, as well as a passion for art and a quiet and austere lifestyle.’

We chose an aesthetic where each character would have their personality (reflected in the styling and art direction) and a different stage in their life. We chose a house that had the charm of old houses, very natural makeup, and the idea of giving it a posed-documentary aesthetic. A pregnant woman, an adult, and a very young boy. All tuned in the same house. They are all united by the same reality: the need to share a home to make ends meet, as well as a passion for art and a quiet and austere lifestyle.

‘The biggest challenge was to provide consistency to the characters as a whole and give them an unforced personality.’

The biggest challenge was to provide consistency to the characters as a whole and give them an unforced personality. I also think that it is very important to find a point at which the entire team and models feel comfortable and to be able to take advantage of all the opportunities that are generated in that environment. When there are many people in small spaces, the energy must be correct so that things flow naturally. On the other hand, take advantage of all the rooms and find the correct light for each one (relying on some extra lighting at times, but trying to use natural light above all).
