Deciding to drop out of the university to pursue a personal passion - becoming a freelance artist was one of the breakthrough points in Hollie Fernando's life, a choice supported by her family. Hollie Fernando is a British, Brighton-based photographer whose work is influenced by her surroundings, the close connection to family members, and nature. Pre-Raphaelite paintings, she used to observe with her father at Tate Britain, left an enduring imprint on her approach to photography, development, and post-production from color to the symbolic elements exhibited to the viewers.
Hollie Fernando is a self-titled book, a limited edition of 48 pages and 300 copies. It's a fourth book, which comes as a part of the ongoing collaboration between Setanta Books and Open Doors, presenting emerging artists. Hollie emphasizes the importance of the work with color, “I also am very meticulous with how the colours in my work sit with my last shoot, hoping to create a visual world that ties together.” Shooting on analog film, Hollie retains control over the aesthetics of the outcome, weaving a connection by working on aligning the colors between the photographs. The process enables to create - a fantasy-like, recognizable world. The soft layer of emotions is an authentic embellishment, which assures the story with meaning and a plot.
